Elwood-John H. Glenn High School senior Lauren Vega was recently selected by New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul to participate in the first New York State Youth Agriculture Leadership Conference in Albany on Nov. 13–14. At the two-day conference, whose theme is “Collaborate, Cultivate and Elevate,” Vega will collaborate with students from across the state to share her experiences.
Vega is a second-year student in the veterinary science program at Wilson Tech. Last May, her team won first place in a state veterinary career competition in Buffalo run by the National Future Farmers of America, and were crowned New York State FFA champions in veterinary science. Vega’s team most recently came in third overall at a regional competition in Buffalo.
“I am beyond proud of myself,” Vega said. “I’ve come a long way from where I was when I started high school, and I’m just so excited for this opportunity.”
