“We remember Dr. King and study his life,” said Principal Pamela Fine as she addressed the school, “not only because of the changes he helped bring to our nation, but the manner in which he conducted himself. We can all learn from his example.”

Students of James H. Boyd Play Santa
Third-grade students at James H. Boyd Intermediate School worked together to bring the holiday spirit to a family in need within the District.
Students sold raffle tickets and popcorn to their peers in order to raise money to purchase gifts for the family. They also sold “tickets” for $1.50 to fellow third graders for a special cafeteria showing of the popular holiday film The Polar Express. Those who chose to donate were invited to watch the film while wearing their pajamas and holiday hats.
With the $900 raised, class parents purchased gifts, which were then wrapped in class by students. The children also designed holiday cards to accompany the gifts, which will be delivered by school social worker Mr. Neihardt.

EMS Students Help Out The Marines!
Students at Elwood Middle School were given the opportunity to assist the U.S. Marines with their annual toy drive benefiting the Toys for Tots Foundation. This community service event was organized by social studies teacher and National Junior Honor Society advisor Diane Locascio. The student volunteers and their parents worked hand in hand with Sergeant Michael Umbreit and other Marines at the Toys for Tots warehouse in Farmingdale on December 9. Together, they sorted over 1,000 toys by age appropriateness and gender. This was a unique and wonderful event for the students as well as their parents. Elwood Middle School would like to thank the Toys for Tots Foundation for this opportunity to help those in need this holiday season.
