Maria Aiello’s AP Environmental Science class took a hands-on approach to learning during their recent visit to the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium. Students collected plant and animal samples from pond water and later examined them under microscopes back in the classroom. During the tour, students explored the hatchery facilities and even had the opportunity to feed trout that will soon be released to help repopulate local waterways. They also viewed an extensive collection of fish, amphibians and reptiles native to New York State. This field trip provided students with a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world environmental conservation efforts.
