Elwood-John H. Glenn High School

A Message From the Principal

Dear John H. Glenn Students and Parents,

I am honored and excited to begin the 2016-2017 school year as the Principal of Elwood-John H. Glenn High School.  Having served as one of the assistant principals of John H. Glenn High School for the past two years, I have witnessed first-hand the unrelenting commitment of the faculty, staff and families to the educational success of all students. Blessed to be part of an incredible team that works tirelessly to afford our students a wide range of course offerings designed to prepare each and every one of them for college and careers. I eagerly anticipate this upcoming school year.

As building principal, I am dedicated to continuing the successes that we, the John H. Glenn community, have worked vigorously to establish over the past years. Steadfast in my commitment to continued collaboration with all members of the John H. Glenn community, I am confident in the strength of our team to advance us to the next level and am committed to aligning our resources in effort to provide every John H. Glenn student with the benefits of a 21st century teaching-learning environment.

Allow me to share some of the incredible highlights and accolades that the John H. Glenn community has achieved during the 2015-2016 school year:

Washington Post’s America’s Most Challenging High Schools, Newsweek’s America’s Top High Schools, Schools of Opportunity, U.S. News and World Report’s Best High Schools, and College Board’s Advanced Placement District Honor Roll.  June 2016, the Long Island Patch recognized our high school as being ranked second on Long Island with 86% of students achieving 3 or higher on the 2015 Advanced Placement (AP) tests in the first year of our open enrollment for AP.

It is obvious that we have a great deal to be proud of.  Yet, we continue to work to hone our practice in the interest of the students of John H. Glenn.

Dr. Bossert quoted appropriately in his letter to the staff that, "The race to excellence has no finish line."   We at John H. Glenn subscribe to that very same philosophy.  While we are prideful in our accomplishments, we are fully aware that the journey to propel each student to their highest level of excellence is a never ending quest-one that we are committed to working toward.

As a parent myself, I know "it takes a village to raise a child" and I would want my own children to have the John H. Glenn "village" experience. I look forward to your continued partnership as we work together to provide our students, your children, the greatest educational experience.

On behalf of the administration, faculty and staff, I welcome you and the entire John H. Glenn school community to the 2016-2017 school year. Go Knights!

Sincerely,

Carisa Burzynski
Principal
