Over the summer, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association announced Elwood-John H. Glenn High School as the Spring 2024 Community Service Challenge winner. This was the first award for John Glenn in the 12 years that NYSPHSAA has conducted the Community Service Challenge, which is presented by partner NYCM Insurance.

At the Huntington Town Board’s Aug. 6 board meeting, Councilman Salvatore Ferro recognized nine John Glenn student volunteers for their participation in the Unified Sports and Best Buddies programs, presenting Town of Huntington commendations to the students to honor their outstanding volunteer efforts and dedication to children with disabilities and special needs. Jada Casey, Jadeem Casey, Meghan McGowan and Christina Munch were commended for their volunteerism in the Unified Sports program, while Ellie Crowley, Olivia Hechler, McGowan, Madison Sorok and Caroline Weiss were commended for their leadership in the Best Buddies program. Crowley, Sorok and Weiss were selected to attend the 2024 International Best Buddies Conference held at Indiana University this past July to further enhance their approaches and interaction within the club. Rising senior Joey Mammolito received a proclamation for leading the fundraising efforts for both the Unified Sports and Blooming Buddies programs, which raised $5,000 in support of these two community initiatives. In attendance at the ceremony was Frankie Musi, a member of both the Unified Sports and Best Buddies programs.

John Glenn junior Koshol Rametra was also separately recognized at the Town Board meeting for his volunteer work with the Huntington Youth Bureau.
