On Sunday, Oct. 6, members of the Elwood community united for Elwood Education Endowment’s 10th Annual 5K Run/Walk for Education.

The day began with a children’s quarter-mile Fun Run around the middle school track, kicked off by Harley Avenue Principal Dana Basile. A total of 43 children took part in the Fun Run and set the course for the 5K participants. A total of 293 people then took to the streets of Greenlawn for the 5K race. Among them was Board of Education trustee Andrew Kaplan, 82 Elwood students and 26 members of the Elwood faculty and staff.

Elwood-John H. Glenn High School’s very own Sarah Hardie finished as the overall female runner, who took the award for the fifth time. In addition, the following nine middle and high school students beat teacher Pat Burke and have been afforded bragging rights: Andrew Murphy, Christopher Clavel, Sarah Hardie, Sebastion Morales, James O’Brien, Alexis Groak, Daniel Cooke, Joey Gryski and John Badlato.

In addition to the race, the EEE also hosted a “Run for Education” drawing contest. Congratulations to Harley Avenue winner Lalaina Oksenhom and James H. Boyd winner Sabrina Siddiqui on their creative entries.

Thank you to all involved in making the day’s events so successful, including Superintendent Peter Scordo, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Gary Furman and Assistant Superintendent for Business William Pastore for assisting with traffic control for the day’s events.
