JGHS Blood Drive on May 28

John Glenn High School's Students Against Destructive Decisions Club is sponsoring a blood drive on Tuesday, May 28 in the high school gymnasium from 7:45 a.m. through 1:45 p.m. All parents and guardians are welcome to participate. If you are interested in donating a pint of blood, please contact Ms. Fusaro in the library at 631-266-5410 ext. 3491 or email her at lfusaro@elwood.k12.ny.us.

John Glenn Again Named One of Top High Schools in the U.S.

Elwood-John H. Glenn High School was once again named one of the top high schools in the nation, as noted in the recently released 2024-2025 U.S. News & World Report annual “Best High Schools” list. With an overall score of 93.7/100, John Glenn ranked at No. 1,112 nationally, 109th in New York State and in the top five in Suffolk County. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college.

“I am happy to report that Elwood-John H. Glenn High School continues to rank among the top high schools both at the national and state levels,” Principal Corey McNamara said. “This recognition is a collective effort of the entire Elwood community and organization. We commend our students, families, faculty and staff for their continuous effort in making Elwood such a great community to live.”

John Glenn Students Attend Day of Unity Conference at Walt Whitman HS

The Elwood-John H. Glenn High School Social Justice Ambassadors Club attended the third annual Day of Unity conference at Walt Whitman High School, presented by their Muslim Student Association. Approximately 100 students from seven Long Island school districts attended the April 12 event. Reinforcing this year’s theme of inclusivity, the Day of Unity sought to embrace diversity, build connections and foster understanding. The featured speakers were Elwood Board of Education member Dr. Sara Siddiqui and Kehillath Shalom Synagogue Rabbi Lina Zerbarini.

“It was a great day where we learned about different cultures and religions while also learning about the harmful impact that racism has on all of us,” John Glenn student Zaim Shaikh said.

John Glenn Inducts 58 to World Language Honor Society

Elwood-John H. Glenn High School welcomed 58 new members to the World Language Honor Society in a memorable April 18 induction ceremony. WLHS President Elizabeth Clarke led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by pledges in Italian from Italian Honor Society Vice President Dan Elling, Spanish from Spanish Honor Society Vice President Nina Abrenica and American Sign Language from ASL Honor Society Vice President Samantha Zeis.

After remarks from Assistant Principal Trish Sihksnel and WLHS advisers Nicole Correia and Nicole Gendjoian, the new inductees – 36 for the Spanish Honor Society, 11 for the Italian Honor Society and 11 for the American Sign Language Honor Society – proudly took their oaths.
